To pass a board exam through self-review: tips from an autodidactic passer

I am a self-confessed autodidactic since I learned many things from studying them with my own means, e.g. guitar, flute, Korean alphabet. With this skill, as I perceived it, I passed the licensure exam for teachers with satisfying grade for only the first try. I was even a ”qualifying student” (one who already acquired a bachelor’s degree) then that should have enrolled in a review center for I only engaged in education course in a sum of a year.

Here are the guiding nitty-gritty steps that I made to help you in a review for an academic venture:

1. Get the Pointers. Read and take them on note from PRC site. (This important step is the one I forgot to do. One week before the exam have I noticed this on the said site and spent the entire drudging week regretting and coping.)

2. Secure detailed reviewers. One is too little. Two is enough.

Detailed: Explanations provided are highly important for they improve understanding. Inferences will be eradicated since supporting facts for every question is served.

Two: Comparisons for presented facts are important. If conflicting, it will be a red light to make more research on the web or any available resources.

3. Go back to old books that incline to pointers. Memorizing is not the must-do, Refreshing thoughts is. These books/portfolios include those relevant to the pointers and have been studied in your highs school and college.

4. Study on perfect times.

Times: Just as you wake up, since mind is fresh and environment offers a serene mode.

Scientist’s suggestion is at noon when brain is working properly. Well, not a good tip for sleepy heads.

Personal Experience Steps: a. Study on wake-ups. b. A topic for a week or days. c. Answer items on reviewers. d. review

5. Jot down words or topics that need more theoretical supports for the aim of understanding them better. Search them on any available resources, e.g. net.

6. Make a personal graph of what you’ve learned. Compartmentalization is a boon for it makes understanding easy to do.

Ex.

Add-ons should be written when important things are encountered for previous topic during the study of new one.

Ex.

7. Don’t pressure yourself. Live your life like you’re still in school. Have time for fun!

8. And the most powerful step is PRAYER!

  1. Develop a study routine that works for you. If you study better in the morning, start early before taking a break at lunchtime.
